RESEARCH INTERESTS
Concerns about the sustainability of farming systems and their potential in mitigating rising atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations need to be addressed. However, developing sustainable farming practices rests to a large extent on our understanding of the turnover and storage of soil carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) in agroecosystems. My research interests and goals are directed towards:
  1. investigating the effects of agricultural management on soil organic matter dynamics and crop productivity in the context of global climate change, environmental quality, and long-term sustainability
  2. using an soil aggregate approach to determine mechanisms of nutrient cycling and the role of microbial communities in the functioning of agroecosystems, and
  3. establishing concepts and field practices that enhance crop yields, increase C and N resource use efficiency, and attenuate negative effects to the agroecosystem and environment.

Projects
  1. LINKING C AND N CYCLING TO MICROBIAL FUNCTION WITHIN SOIL MICROENVIRONMENTS IN COVER CROP SYSTEMS
