RESEARCH INTERESTS
  1. The effects of elevated CO2 and O3 levels on the above- and belowground ecosystem productivity, microbial community composition and function, and N cycling. More specifically, I want to elucidate the feedback loops between the microbial community, microhabitats, and N cycle to predict future changes to agroecosystem functioning. It is postulated that elevated levels of CO2 and O3 will alter the input and output of nitrogen to agroecosystems, and will thereby alter mineralization, nitrification, and denitrification rates.
  2. Elucidate how the specific microbial communities in soil microenvironments control short and long term nitrogen cycling in order to explain how cover crop carbon lead to a decrease in nitrogen loss and an increase in nitrogen available to plants.
