Genetics and breeding of small fruits, especially strawberries.

My research concerns the development of efficient methods for breeding, testing and selecting plants that are vegetatively propagated for commercial production purposes. My responsibilities also include management of the statewide program for varietal improvement of strawberries. Topics of research include:

* Investigation of genetic x environment interactions for strawberries, where the variable environments considered are physical, temporal and cultural.

* Studies of quantitative genetic variation for yield, fruit size, production patterns, and quality traits in strawberries, and the patters of quantitative variation during the harvest season.

* Studies of the inheritance of strawberry fruit flavor and color.
