There's gotta be a better way to design this experiment!
Dr. Kathy Yeater and Dr. Sara Duke are ARS Statisticians that work with researchers in the Southern Plains Area which includes rice stations in Beaumont and Stuttgart. They have offered to host a four-hour training workshop for rice researchers at the RTWG meeting in San Diego. The purpose of the workshop will be to help researchers understand the fundamentals of experimental design. With many genomics-based projects and field studies involving multiple treatments, there may be better and more efficient experimental designs available than the traditional RCB or split-plot. Presentations and discussions will focus on Types of Studies, Concepts and Terminology. It will be applicable to field plot research as well as large-scale genomics research (e.g. microarrays or other chip-based work). We will discuss replication, control, inference, bias, and confounding. In addition, the SAS Mixed models procedure will be discussed which is largely replacing ANOVA and GLM. The new SAS program Proc Glimmix will also be introduced which has powerful post-analysis tools for visualizing results. Who should attend? Anyone struggling with large and complex research projects, interested in publishing results in peer-reviewed journals, or wanting to get more information from data that are being collected.
Registration will be limited to 40 people.
