Albert Fischer and Jim EckertBruce Linquist, Sam Harader and Jim HillMatt Ruark

The University of California hosted a field demonstration at the Rice Experiment Station near Biggs, CA. About forty from farmer/industry group and UC Davis staff observed and discussed differences in stand establishment, weed control and fertility management in each of the following five systems.

  1. Conventional water seeded
  2. Conventional drill seeded
  3. Delayed state seedbed, water seeded (spring tilled and treated with Round-up after the first weed flush and then water seeded)
  4. No-till, water seeded (flushed to germinate weeds, Round-up and then water seeded)
  5. No-till, drill seeded (flushed to germinate weeds, Round-up and then drill seeded)

The progress on the CalFed water quality project for rice was also discussed.

Following are handouts given during the Field Demonstration.

This research is being conducted in cooperation with the California Rice Experiment Station, California Rice Research Board, California Rice Commission, and the State Water Resources Control Board with funding support from CALFED Drinking Water Program.
