The University of California Cooperative and Extension (UCCE) Rice Project is an interdisciplinary collaboration that fosters research in rice production management and facilitates the exchange of information and the development and spread of promising technologies.
The Rice Workgroup is composed of interdisciplinary teams of research and extension personnel in the University of California with interest in rice. The Workgroup partners with cooperative extension farm advisors from Butte/Sutter/Yuba Counties, UC Research and Extension Center, Rice Experiment Station-Biggs, California State University-Fresno, Purdue University, USDA Agricultural Research Service, and grower cooperators. The group meets periodically to discuss research updates on breeding, disease resistance, weed control, and entomology, identify new research needs, strengthen research collaboration, and facilitate technology delivery. Outreach remains a high priority of the Workgroup. Campus-based members frequently make presentations and assist with field days at the county level. The Rice Workgroup embodies very well the Land Grant model of a programmatic continuum between campus and community, to improve coordination of efforts and identify high priority issues affecting clientele.
