Research

My research program focuses on the ecological genetics and evolution of agricultural weeds and invasive plants of natural systems. In particular, I am interested in integrating molecular, spatial, and demographic studies to address questions concerning the genetics of exotic plant invasions and the adaptive evolution of cropland weeds and invasive plants to novel management practices and/or environmental conditions. Current studies focus on: (1) implications of hybridization between introduced and native or crop species for the evolution of invasiveness, (2) importance of interpopulation gene flow during early founding events on metapopulation establishment and persistence, and (3) population genetics and evolution of herbicide resistance in weeds.
