Wednesday Seminar: Milla Gutiérrez on crop evolution

Event Date

Location
PES 3001

Rubén Milla Gutiérrez, from the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Spain, will be presenting for our Wednesday Seminar this week. The title of his seminar is "The Ecology of Crop Evolution."

Graduate students are invited to meet with Dr. Milla, from 1–2 p.m. Wednesday, immediately after his seminar, in PES 3001.

Dr. Milla writes: "I am a plant ecologist. Since around 2010, I have been applying ecological tools and concepts to gain insight into how crop evolution has occurred. Compared with genetics, archaeology and other disciplines, ecology has contributed comparatively little to the domestication literature. But, ecology has a lot to contribute to the understanding of domestication processes and the mode and consequences of plant evolution under cultivation.”

His host, Dr. Paul Gepts, adds to that: "Ecology also informs contemporary agroecology and plant breeding/genetics."

At the seminar, we'll have coffee, fruit and snacks. Grad students can get credit for PLS 290 - be sure to sign the sign-in sheet at the table as you come in!

This is part of our Wednesday Seminar series, held at noon (almost) every Wednesday during the school year. All are welcome! Enjoy the company of other folks interested in all things plants. Ask questions at the end, and network with faculty and students.
